COURSE OVERVIEW
This SEQM Training Online Self-Paced ISO 14001:2026 Upgrade Course is designed for those who are already familiar with ISO 14001:2015 and now need to understand the key changes within the revised 2026 version.
Rather than teaching the standard from the beginning, the course focuses on the transition: what has changed, why those changes matter, and how they affect environmental management systems in practice.
You may be an Auditor who needs to understand what evidence to look for, a Tutor who needs to be able to explain and assess conformity with the new requirements, or a Consultant who needs to guide organisations through the revision with confidence.
By the end of the course you should feel more confident in understanding the 2026 update and applying it within an environmental management system.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
- Those already familiar with the ISO 14001:2015 Standard
- Auditors, Tutors, Consultants, Environmental Managers and Practitioners who work with EMS
- Anyone wishing to understand the key changes in the updated 2026 revision
- Those wishing to build on existing environmental management experience
Note:
This is an upgrade course. It assumes you already know ISO 14001:2015 and is not CQI and IRCA certified – see certified options below.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Key topics include:
- Why ISO 14001 has been revised and the global drivers behind the 2026 update
- The transition timeline and how to plan for it
- The clause-by-clause changes from ISO 14001:2015 to ISO 14001:2026
- How the changes affect implementation, auditing and day-to-day EMS activities
- Auditing the new requirements: the evidence, audit trails and auditor judgement involved
Attendees will receive a detailed understanding of:
- The main drivers behind the revision, including climate change, biodiversity and ecosystem health, pollution, the availability of natural resources, and rising expectations for transparency and accountability
- What has stayed the same, including the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle, the Harmonized Structure and the core principles of environmental management
- The transition timeline: published on 15 April 2026, with a three-year transition period to be completed before May 2029
- Clause 4 – Context: the requirement to consider wider environmental conditions, interested party needs and a lifecycle-based scope
- Clause 5 – Leadership: strengthened expectations for top management to support all relevant EMS roles, not only formal management positions
- Clause 6 – Planning: reinforced lifecycle thinking, risks and opportunities, and the new Clause 6.3 on planning of changes
- Clause 7 – Support: documented information that must be available and usable, and the growing role of digital tools, monitoring systems and data
- Clause 8 – Operation: the broader focus on externally provided processes, products and services, and clearer links to emergency preparedness
- Clause 9 – Performance evaluation: defined internal audit objectives and a restructured management review (purpose, inputs and outputs)
- Clause 10 – Improvement: corrective action linked to environmental impacts and continual improvement as a central EMS outcome
plus:
- The specific evidence auditors should expect to see for each revised area of the standard
- The audit trails that matter most, from the context of the organisation right through to improvement
- Practical audit questions that can be used to test implementation and effectiveness
- How weak or incomplete evidence can lead to findings or nonconformities
